I really liked this set of stamps and dies from Sizzix and Hero Arts and it inspired a new card.

Then, when I was thinking of how to photograph it, I thought of an afternoon picnic and I said -why not? – so here we are with a card full of butterflies and a picnic with champagne! Hahaha.

The key for this card, besides the masking so the butterflies don’t all look identical – consider that I only used two stamps but it looks as if I used a lot more – are the colors chosen. There are no reds, no purples, it’s mostly brown with touches of blue for contrast. A lot of earth, grass and sky tones.

The perfect frame for this contrast is the white background framed in black to get the elegance of pure lines in design.

I hope you like this as much as I do! If you’d like to see the video in HD and subscribe to my YouTube channel click HERE.

This card inspired an evening of picnic, glamour and milky way photographs that I shared on Instagram. It’s truly magical, how much you can achieve just by getting out of the light and pollution from cities and leaving your camera on long exposure set on a tripod. This photo below was taken with 15 seconds of exposure and the lens wide open.

In this manner, the camera can capture a lot of light, far more than our eyes could see at that time.

We couldn’t see so many stars live, nor were we lit in this way by the back lights from the car. We were in pitch black darkness and we couldn’t see the shooting star that can be seen above us if you zoom in.

All this magic was only captured by the camera and it is truly amazing to discover once you look at the screen that we are standing underneath such an amazing starry spectacle and we can’t see it unless we stop for a few seconds with our camera.

We are unbelievably small compared to the universe, but, if we really think about it, each one of us is the perfect combination of innumerable scientific processes that, had they happened, say, under a slightly different temperature, would not have led to our existence… that makes us absolutely unique… so far at least 😉
